Gabi-Gabi Pumupunta Ang Lalaking Ito Sa Subway at Ang Dahilan Nito Ay Siguradong Magpapaiyak Sainyo - Boy Trending

Nowadays, most of us already have our own mobile data plan that comes with internet access every single month. Life is so easy for us because we don’t have to worry about not having Wi-Fi when we step out of the house, but not for this man.

Ge Yuanzheng who is from the Henan Province in central China moved to Shanghai in October to earn more money for his family. He adds to 76.66 million migrant workers documented across provinces in China in 2016, leaving children in their hometowns.

Working as a construction worker, Ge earns 200-300 yuan (RM123-RM185) a day and lives with his workmates in a dormitory.

With a tight budget, the father of two has nothing to spare for a personal internet connection.

He was quoted by SCMP,

“I don’t want to spend money, but I miss home and want to talk to my family.”

Therefore, Ge has devoted himself to walk to a nearby subway station every night to log on to the free Wi-Fi there so that he can keep in touch with his family. He usually calls from 7 pm or 8 pm.

Ge’s daily routine was going on for quite some time until one night when a pedestrian saw him making a call and took his photo to share online.

With the power of social media, Ge quickly went viral with many expressing pity.

Apparently, Ge’s wife had no idea that her husband must walk to the subway every night just to see them on camera. But just like husband and wife, she was also good at getting “free” Wi-Fi by leaching her neighbor’s internet connection.

According to sources, the couple has a son who’s already working, and a younger daughter studying nursing with a tuition of 30,000 yuan (237,039 php) a year. Ge plans to go home for the Chinese New Year holiday and bring his loving wife a new phone.

Although Ge is busy with his work, he still made sure to contact his family every single day without fail. More often than not, left-behind children rarely get to hear from their parents. We hope he manages to get a new phone for his wife when Chinese New Year is around the corner.
