Receiving A Letter From A Stranger That Started A Wonderful Friendship

Receiving a letter once in a while from your loved ones is heartwarming and receiving a letter from a stranger can be also heartwarming and can be teary at some point.

That's what exactly Marleen Brooks, a 37-year-old property manager experience. A 90 years old lady sent her a letter and wanted to make friend with her.

The letter contains just a few lines:

Would you consider to become my friend? I'm 90 years old - live alone and all my friends have passed away. I am so lonesome and scared. Please - I pray for someone.

Guess what happened after reading her letter Brooks had tears in her eyes. Brooks own grandmother, who raised her, had died alone in hospice and that scenario kept bothering her. The woman who wrote the letter which is Wanda Mills had left an address that seems to be nearby.

Mills had lived in the house for 51 years which is a very very long time. Her lovely husband and sister already passed away, also one of her sons. Her other son lived out of state and her third son lived next door but didn't visit often.

We all know what loneliness and isolation can do to you it can greatly affect your health.

So Brookes wondered how many people out there that are living like Wanda Mills, unknown to their neighbors. Brooks decided to take a picture of the letter and post it on Facebook, urging people to make sure to check on their neighbors and inviting them to send letters to Mills, and opened a post office box for her.

Also, Brooks had an incredible idea she started a FAcebook group called Pen Pals for Seniors, offering to match participants with older people who want to correspond by mail.

Around 500 letters have been exchanged. Brooks high school classmates have contacted her and employees at her local post office call her "Pen Pal Girl."
