First Ever Coins That Are From The Alexander The Great Era Found By Cave Explorers

Cave explorers discovered coins and jewelry that is dated back from the time of Alexander the great and archaeologists believe that the treasure trove the cave explorers found was hidden by refugees during an ancient war.

According to Eitan Klein from the Antiquities Authority, the treasure found by the explorers was the first of its kind to be found from the period of the conqueror.

Also scuba divers discovered a larger amount of treasure from the 11th century. The scuba divers found about 2,000 gold coins and archaeologists hopes that the find will shed light on Muslim rule during that time.

The Antiquities Authority said in a statement that "The valuables might have been hidden in the cave by local residents who fled there during the period of governmental unrest stemming from the death of Alexander,"
