This Fungus Turns Insects Into Zombies The Process Is Truly Terrifying

Cordyceps is a genus of ascomycete fungi that includes about 400 species. All Cordyceps species are endoparasitoids, parasitic mainly on insects and other arthropods a few are parasitic on other fungi. This fungus turns insects to zombies this fungi's spores infiltrate the insect's bodies and brains. The fungi will grow inside their host by feeding off the non-vital organs and guide the insect to precise locations where they will kill their host by devouring the brains.

The genus has a worldwide distribution and most of the approximately 400 species have been described from Asia. Cordyceps species are particularly abundant and diverse in humid temperate and tropical forests.
