Couple Couldn't Believe What They Had Found In Their Backyard
This couple couldn't believe what they found in their backyard. They found a well preserved underground refuge fully stocked with foods, medicines, magazines and other vintage supplies.
The said shelter was built by nuclear engineer Alvin Kaufman, who built it in 1961 about 15 feet below hoping that it will protect his family if a nuclear attack occurs. In the 60s era, there is a greater chance that a nuclear war may emit.
Kaufman's daughter, Debra, who grew up in the house told CBS Los Angeles. The shelter, which according to Debra Kaufman was meant to sustain a family of four for a few weeks, came equipped with sleeping areas for its inhabitants, a water tank, and a hand-cranked air filter.
Kaufman, who died in 2004, had originally planned to build a fallout shelter for his entire block, but his neighbors passed up on the offer.
Otcasek says he does not intend to fill the underground space in his backyard or make any changes to it.
'I’ll leave it for the next people,' Otcasek said. 'It should last forever.'
